Migration is becoming a key global challenge of the 21st century. Public tensions are emerging in our country and have already had its effects on Polish society. Europeans should be reminded of the fact that many of them share a migratory past.
It is necessary to raise awareness about the histories of people forced to leave their homes. Our project can develop empathy and understanding for today’s migrants. We will publish 13 books from 11 countries outlining the stories of migrants, especially those who were at risk of exclusion for a variety of reasons (social, political, gender, racial). We will give a voice to those who have not been able to tell their stories. We have selected books from lesser-used languages to strengthen their visibility in Poland. Our project has a comprehensive communication strategy using various promotional platforms.
We plan to reach people who are sceptical about reception of migrants: readers from smaller towns and youth. Our books will find practical application in working with migrant and native groups, offering them professional development and a chance for self-expression. This will be achieved through the creative writing workshops. Activities connecting migrants with natives increasing mutual understanding between national groups in Poland. We see the activity combining book publishing and strengthening local communities as innovative on the Polish publishing market.
An important role in our team will be given to a collective of translators. We plan to make our publishing series an important cultural initiative that will inspire discussions in local communities in Poland. We will share good practices from the organisation of the project with representatives of the publishing sector from other countries, especially Ukraine. This will strengthen the international aspect of the project and allow to promote internationally the idea of combining literature and social inclusion.
