On May 13th, KEW experts participated in the European Conference 2024, held in the distinguished Hall of Mirrors at the Primate’s Palace in Bratislava.
This annual event brought together key thinkers and policymakers to discuss the pressing topic: “Are we ready for the EU of 30+?”
The conference featured four insightful panel discussions:
1. Ramifications of the war on Ukraine on the EU enlargement – “when” and “how” for the Ukrainian accession?
2. Internal reform of the EU as a prerequisite to future enlargement?
3. Where are our ambitions for enlargement in the Western Balkans?
4. 20 years since the “big bang” enlargement – lessons learned, challenges, and opportunities
Deputy Prime Minister for the Recovery and Resilience Plan and the use of EU funds, Peter Kmec, delivered a keynote speech, and the dynamic panel discussions were enriched by contributions from experts from seven different countries.
The conference was organized by SFPA in cooperation and with the support of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, Zastúpenie v Slovenskej republike. Further partners of the conference were the Austro-French Centre for Rapprochement in Europe and a consorcium of international partners including IFRI, BIGS, CIDOB, EGMONT, IEP, KEW and OIIP.
