On May 13th, together with our Czech partner – Association for International Affairs (AMO), as a part of the project “Czech-Polish Synergies in the EU’s Russia Policy” financed by the Czech-Polish Forum, we organized a seminar devoted to the policy of the Czech Republic and Poland towards Russia.
The meeting moderated by Vít Dostál, the director of AMO, was attended by the deputy foreign ministers of the Czech Republic and Poland: Aleš Chmelař and Marcin Przydacz, as well as experts: Agnieszka Bryc, Assistant Professor at Nicolaus Copernicus University and Pavel Havlíček, Research Fellow of AMO.
The main topic of the discussion was the issue of the potential for Prague and Warsaw to shape EU and NATO policy to the Russian Federation. The panellists agreed that the Russian aggression against Ukraine in 2014 resulted in closer positions of Poland and the Czech Republic on policy to Russia. In their opinion, both countries understand that the EU and NATO should adopt a much more assertive attitude to neo-imperial Russia. The panellists also emphasised the significance of the EU’s development of relations with Russian society. In the future that may lead to a change and an improvement in Moscow’s relations with the EU.
