The annexation of Crimea and the Russian aggression against Ukraine in 2014 have left the eastern EU and NATO member states uncertain about how safe their countries are and how much they can rely on the solidarity of the other members of both organizations in case of a crisis and conflict situation.
While Germany’s commitment to Nord Stream 2 project is a source of continuing distrust, the migration border crisis triggered by Belarusian autocrat Lukashenka, but also the lacking Russian will to end the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine are cause enough for lasting anxiety in the eastern member states of the EU.
During our roundtable we want to assess how Poland and Germany perceive the security situation at the eastern flank of EU and NATO and how strong is the solidarity between members of the EU and NATO.
